From the cultivation of cotton to natural dyeing with medicinal plants, through weaving and final sewing, every step of this piece is carried out with care, honoring ancestral knowledge and a living devotion for Mother Earth.
ESSENCE - The flowing shape of this handwoven top evokes the movement of butterfly wings, created for qigong, dance and movement practices. Its name, HUADIE 化蝶, means “to become a butterfly,” carrying the essence of metamorphosis, transformation, through movement and presence. The shape is inspired by Hudie Mama 蝴蝶妈妈, the Mother Butterfly, revered in the ancestral traditions of Southwest China as a primordial presence connected to the origin of life. According to ancient legends, she was born from a sacred maple tree. One day, she flew over a lake and fell in love with a spirit of the waters. From their union, she laid twelve eggs, from which emerged the myriad beings of the world, including the first human ancestors. Across these stories, the butterfly remains deeply connected to transformation, ancestry, and the continuity of life.
