JINGAI 净艾 Mugwort Tea Robe

$348.00

ESSENCE | The name JINGAI 净艾 reflects the healing properties of this very unique garment. 净 jìng evokes sacred clarity and purification, 艾 ài refers to àicǎo (Artemisia argyi), Chinese mugwort, a revered medicinal plant in Chinese tradition. Naturally hand-dyed with wild mugwort, this ceremonial robe is designed to support your rituals. It acts as a soft shield, a textile talisman. Used in Traditional Chinese Medicine for moxibustion, mugwort holds the power of ultimate Yang — fire, protection and transformation. This robe is versatile and can be styled in myriad ways, following the dance of your spirit.

STORY | JINGAI 净艾 is lovingly handcrafted by women artisans from the Dong indigenous community, part of the DEYI textile cooperative. From the cultivation of cotton to the weaving, natural dyeing, and final sewing, each step is carried out with great care, preserving centuries-old knowledge and honoring Mother Earth.

This robe is dyed with mugwort, a sacred plant the Dong people use to dispel harmful energies. In traditional Dong wooden homes, bundles of dried mugwort are often hung above the entrance to guard and purify the space. In the humid climate of Guizhou, Dong women hold a deep relationship with this plant — not only for dyeing and healing rituals, but also through daily wellness practices like mugwort foot baths or hair care, used to release internal dampness and restore balance. The weaving pattern featured on the fabric of the tea robe is the hypnotic “Diamond Three” motif, a distinctive symbol of the Dong community’s identity and legacy. This robe may be worn with its precious belt, handwoven and dried under the summer sun and the luminous glow of the full moon. Its radiant whiteness offers a beautiful contrast to the earthy greens of the mugwort-dyed cloth.

COMPOSITION | 100% indigenous organic cotton. Hand-spun yarns, hand-dyed with mugwort, and handwoven on traditional looms.

CARING | Each fabric is truly unique, shaped over several days of patient, handmade work. Small irregularities in the weave or the dye are not defects — they’re part of the soul of the piece, traces of the human hands behind your garment. To care for this piece with the attention it deserves, we invite you to read our caring guide.
